Plastic Surgeon located in Denver, CO

Women who desire an increase in breast size and improvement in breast shape without implants or a breast lift may be interested in breast fat transfer. At Peak Plastic Surgery Center in Denver, Colorado, Dr. Eric Barker utilizes the patient’s own fat that is harvested through liposuction from another region of the body and placed into the breast to achieve the desired results. Fat transfer may also be combined with a number of other breast enhancement procedures, which will be discussed with Dr. Barker at the time of consultation. Call or book an appointment online.

Fat Transfer Q & A

    • Why do women choose to undergo fat transfer?
      • Fat transfer to the breast is becoming more popular for women who desire a change in breast size and shape without the surgical intervention of a breast lift or augmentation. Dr. Barker will meet with the patient and discuss their personal goals for the procedure and see if fat transfer is right for them.
    • What should I expect during a fat transfer consultation?
      • Goals of surgery
        • Improving the contour and size of the breast according to the patient’s individual needs. Each patient will have a predetermined surgical and recovery plan, to ensure this process is as comfortable as possible.
      • Procedure
        • Anesthesia: General Anesthesia by a highly trained anesthesia provider
        • Length: Typically around 1 hour
      • Post Operative Care
        • Small (less than 1cm) incisions will be used to harvest fat as well as inject fat into the breasts.  The small incisions will be closed with dissolvable sutures. The breast incisions will be covered with a small sterile surgical dressing.
        • Depending on where the fat is harvested from (typically the abdomen), a postoperative compressive garment will be placed to help with postoperative swelling.
        • Patients will be placed in a comfortable surgical bra, which will be recommended for the first 3-6 weeks of recovery.
        • Patients will be allowed to shower the day after surgery.
        • Typically patients will feel slight discomfort in their breasts for the first 3-5 days following surgery. The discomfort in the harvest site for the fat is typically more uncomfortable but controlled with over the counter medications (Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen). The discomfort will continue to improve daily and most patients are able to return to work 1 week after surgery.
      • Recovery
        • Patients will continue to avoid strenuous activity for the first 4-6 weeks following surgery. Patients are usually cleared for full activity without restrictions after 6 weeks.
